Let’s talk about Nauders and Reschenpass: Why should you aim for this extreme corner of Tirol and the Tiroler Oberland holiday area? Simply because it is pretty “extreme”! Three-country cycling tours and excursions await you around Reschen, and in winter the Nauders / Schöneben / Reschenpass is a skier's paradise.
Nauders / Geography:
Nauders is located in an upland valley above Inntal Valley at 1,400m altitude, between Finstermünzpass in the north and Reschenpass in the south. It is a municipality of the district of Landeck / Tirol, yet geographically Nauders belongs to the Vinschgau area. However, no Tirolean is that strict about geography in the upper Oberland area of Tirol, where borders have always been there to be crossed. Austria, Switzerland and Italy meet at Reschenpass – from Nauders there are roads which lead into the Tirolean Inntal valley, the Engadin Inntal valley and into the Italian part of Tirol. (The sunken church tower in Reschen am See is only a few kilometres away.) Athletic Mozart guests meet there too: south-west of Nauders at Schwarzer See Lake for a cycling tour and in the Schöneben ski area to conquer the Reschenpass's demanding pistes.
Nauders is located on one of the most important trade routes and on the north-south axis. It has always had unifying talents. Already in AD 50 the Via Claudia Augusta Roman road crossed the Reschen; from the 14th century onwards Nauders was legal court and customs facility. Major crises – plague, large fires, avalanches, Napoleon – are also part of the village’s history. Just like small tricks and paths to make one’s life more agreeable, and an innate love of nature. Franz Senn, the founder of the Alpine Club, is from Nauders. The village centre boasts a memorial dedicated to him.
Some smuggle their way through Nauders when heading towards Reschensee Lake across Reschenpass. Some dare to officially join a guided smugglers’ tour. Others, who need to be fit as a fiddle, head for Reschenpass on their bikes. Not without reason is Schwarzsee Lake the highlight of the Tiroler Oberland's cycling & biking programme. Not to mention the Reschen Three-Country Tour…It is more than obvious that hiking is quite important in Nauders. However, Ried is also a perfect hiking base! In the winter it is the same: As the biggest part of the Reschenpass ski paradise Nauders, together with Schöneben, is a true insiders’ tip. And there are many other Tirolean ski paradises nearby!
Google returns more than 1,000,000 hits for Nauders and if you add Reschenpass another 130,000 hits are found. Sites often speak of unlimited skiing fun and an endless hiking paradise. This paradise seems to be located around Reschen with its endless trails and pistes. That’s our keyword for returning from Nauders back to Mozart Vital Hotel…
With the Summer Card Gold you can also access the lifts of Nauders am Reschenpass, besides enjoying many other services in the Tiroler Oberland area.
